I studied library science and creative writing in college and thought I’d one day own a small farm with a kiln and spend my days either making pottery or writing. I can keep this dream I suppose but right now my creative juices are bubbling over soap. For the last two years, I’ve been consumed by soap making.
When I’m not at my 9-5 job, I like to putter around a little corner space in my kitchen that I have set up for my soap supplies and tinker with ingredients. When I’m on the bus commuting to work/home, I’ll fantasize about combinations of colors or using a new additive like ground loofah.
There are so many wonderful soap makers selling their soaps and it can be a bit intimidating, especially for someone like me just starting out. The way I see it, we all have a goal to provide soap that is hand crafted, creative and good for our skin. We can all use the same base ingredients but it’s the way we tweak them that makes the end result special.
All I want is to provide soaps that people will want to purchase again because there’s something in the way I make my soaps that appeals to them.
I also aim to use as many local resources as possible not only help my community but to also reduce my carbon footprint.
Oh, and I do have a small urban “farm” that includes three hens, a 90lb dog, a 16 year old cat; and a very loving fiancé who supports my dreams (so very many of them) and keeps me grounded.
